Team news, injury update as Glasner compares Eagles to an F1 car

Team news, injury update as Glasner compares Eagles to an F1 car

New signing Trevoh Chalobah will miss Crystal Palace’s game against Leicester due to an injury sustained during his first training session with the club, Eagles manager Oliver Glasner has said.

Former England Under-21 international Chalobah joined Chelsea on a season-long loan on transfer deadline day but is not in contention to partner new £15.2m signing Maxence Lacroix in defence when the Foxes visit Selhurst Park on Saturday (3pm BST).

Striker Eddie Nketiah, who cost £30m from Arsenal, is in contention to make his debut, as is on-loan Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Palace vs Leicester

Glasner does not expect Chalobah to be out for long and had positive news regarding an injury concern for midfielder Oliver Wharton.

“He is available,” said the Austrian. “He only had to train individually last week and have a few days off. This week he has been to all the training sessions.”

A knee injury suffered by Chadi Riad during Palace’s 4-0 League Cup win over Norwich City on August 27 is less serious than initially feared.

“The doctor told us it would take eight to 12 weeks,” Glasner added. “At first we thought it was worse, but they said it wasn’t a rupture.”

Palace transfers: Glasner ‘pleased’

Palace earned their first point of the season at the third attempt, in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea on September 1, and Glasner has told his players that returning to action after the international break is “like a fresh start”.

“When you have a Formula 1 car and you need to change a tyre – it’s the same in our squad,” he said. “We had 30 to 40 per cent changes in our squad.

“That means we have to build a new group and find a common sense about how we want to play on the field and how we want to treat each other.

“I am pleased with all our business on transfer deadline day: great players with great characters and a good spirit in the group. But we also have to be critical.”

Leicester also have a point after drawing 1-1 at home to Tottenham, losing 2-1 at Fulham and being beaten 2-1 by visitors Aston Villa on August 31.
