Leeds United news: Liam Cooper completes move to CSKA Sofia

Leeds United legend Liam Cooper is set to finally join CSKA Sofia in the coming hours after reaching a full agreement, sources told Football Insider.

The 33-year-old is expected to fly to Bulgaria and complete the transfer on Tuesday after passing a medical in England in recent days.

The Scot has signed a two-year deal with Sofia after a move to Hull City fell through at the end of last month.

Football Insider broke the news on September 4 that Cooper had entered negotiations with the Bulgarian club to join as a free agent.

Cooper was one of 19 first-team players to leave the West Yorkshire club in the summer after the team failed to secure promotion back to the Premier League last season.

The veteran defender made 284 appearances for Leeds during his nearly ten years at Elland Road, helping the side win promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years under Marcelo Bielsa.

It has been a difficult start to the season for Cooper’s new club, who are second from bottom after six games.

Leeds United, however, are on the rise after two consecutive 2-0 wins against fellow Yorkshire sides Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City.

They next face newly relegated Burnley at Elland Road in their first game after the international break on Saturday 14 September.

In other news, Leeds have handed Patrick Bamford a major boost.
