Women’s transfer news: Everton name three new arrivals; Cascarino leaves Lyon

It was a quieter week in the women’s transfer market, but there were still some important signings, contract extensions and departures announced.

Arsenal are rumoured to be closing in on a move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar. The Gunners are certainly in the market for a new pair of safe hands to sit alongside Manuela Zinsberger following the departure of Sabrina D’Angelo earlier this summer.

Elsewhere in the Women’s Super League, Tottenham fans celebrated as manager Robert Vilahamn confirmed he will remain at the club until 2027.

The 41-year-old made history at Spurs in his first year in north London, guiding the club to a top-six finish in the WSL and a place in the FA Cup final against Manchester United in May.

Everton active with three signings

After naming striker Toni Payne as their first signing this month, the club continue to strengthen their squad with new arrivals Melissa Lawley, Honoka Hayashi and Veatriki Sarri.

Winger Lawley, 30, who has 12 England caps, has plenty of experience, having played for Arsenal, Bristol City, Birmingham City, Manchester City and, most recently, Liverpool.

Next season, she will be joined by midfielder and Japanese international Hayashi, who joins the Toffees after a two-year spell at West Ham, where she made 50 appearances.

Everton have also signed attacking midfielder Veatriki Sarri. The 26-year-old joins from WSL rivals Brighton, where she made 53 appearances and scored six goals.

In addition to the new signings, Everton have also extended the contract of midfielder Aurora Galli. She joined the Blues in July 2021, and has scored three goals and provided two assists in the 2023/24 campaign.

New manager Brian Sorensen has definitely started to shape his squad, and it looks to be an exciting project on Merseyside as the club look to build on their eighth-place finish last season.

West Ham sign French youth international

West Ham have announced the signing of French Under-23 international Ines Belloumou.

The 23-year-old full-back has signed a three-year deal with the club and becomes Rehanne Skinner’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window, alongside Kinga Szemik, Shekiera Martinez and Camila Saeaz.

Belloumou joins the WSL from German champions Bayern Munich, who she joined in July 2023.

Sophia Poor commits to Aston Villa; Julia Zigiotti leaves Brighton

Teenage goalkeeper Sophia Poor has signed her first professional contract with Aston Villa.

The 18-year-old made her first-team debut in difficult circumstances during a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in April, before following up with a full debut at Villa Park against West Ham a week later. She will keep a close eye on Van Domselaar’s situation, knowing she could be battling it out with New Zealand international Anna Leat for the number one jersey.

On the south coast, Sweden’s Julia Zigiotti has left Brighton after her contract expired.

Zigiotti has played 51 times for the club since joining in January 2022 and scored four goals in the WSL last season.
