Leeds fans furious with Illan Meslier after analysis of penalty footage

Leeds United fans were furious with goalkeeper Illan Meslier after his attempt to save a penalty during the 1-1 draw against Norwich.

The Whites left Carrow Road with a point after Largie Ramazani’s 60th-minute equalizer, getting back into the game following a first-half penalty from Josh Sargent.

The result left Daniel Farke’s side in fourth place ahead of their clash with league leaders Sunderland this Friday (October 4).

However, Leeds fans felt Meslier could have done better in trying to save the penalty.

Sargent’s shot appeared to go under the 24-year-old but lacked power or accuracy.

It was only the fifth goal Leeds had conceded all season, but fans were quick to express their opinion of the goalkeeper.

Meslier has been at Elland Road since 2020, but supporters felt his penalty efforts were “pathetic” while others questioned why he “turned up”.

Meslier last saved a competitive penalty in normal time against West Ham in March 2021. Leeds last scored from any corner kick in February 2024 (third stage vs Swansea). Our last direct corner goal came in January 2024 (FA Cup). Our last ‘direct corner’ goal in the league was in December 2023.
