Newcastle United considering deal for Dominic Calvert-Lewin in January – Report

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has repeatedly refused to sign a new contract at Everton.

As things stand, the striker is expected to become a free agent within nine months.

Everton have the option to see what they can get for their first-choice striker in the upcoming January 2025 transfer window, or else they could end up losing him for nothing.

Now Talksport say their information is that Newcastle United could finally sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin in a bargain deal with just three months left in the January window.

Eddie Howe and NUFC have been repeatedly linked with the Everton striker and as recently as this summer 2024 transfer window, United are said to have been in talks with the Toffees, only for an insistence on a £40m valuation to end their interest of summer.

If Dominic Calvert-Lewin is desperate to escape Goodison Park, as clearly appears to be the case, then surely Everton, with their financial situation in shambles, will need to get everything they can for the player in January. Even if the new owners do get the keys to Goodison Park, they are still inheriting a total mess, particularly financially.

Former England striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored 29 goals in 62 Premier League appearances in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons. However, injury problems meant he started just 15 Premier League matches in each of the next two seasons, scoring just seven goals in those 30 PL appearances.

Last season, he regained full fitness and played 32 Premier League games, starting 26 of them.

However, playing in Sean Dyche’s ultra-defensive setup, only Sheffield United have scored fewer Premier League goals than Everton’s poor 40 in 38 games, which goes a long way to explaining why Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored just seven PL goals in 2023/24.

Starting all six Premier League matches this season and scoring a handful of goals, it looks like Dominic Calvert-Lewin has turned things around.

At 27, he should be in his prime now and if Eddie Howe can sign him for a decent price he could be a good deal for Newcastle United, as cover for Alexander Isak and in fact possibly playing alongside him at times .

Any move by Dominic Calvert-Lewin would also certainly coincide with Callum Wilson finally moving on, his injury history and the fact he turns 33 in February could well see him sold and the cash and PSR flex used up to sign the Everton star, as well as Newcastle United potentially signing one or more other players in January, such as a right-handed central defender…
