Confirmed news could see Leeds United close a big deal

Redevelopment plans for Leeds United’s stadium have been revealed and it could become a major “events hub” for the city, according to finance expert Stefan Borson.

The Whites have been at Elland Road since 1919 and earlier this month redevelopment plans were announced with a key aim of increasing capacity to around 53,000.

Elland Road is renowned for its atmosphere and another stated aim was to ensure the “unique” atmosphere was enhanced, as atmosphere can often be lost and difficult to build in new stadiums.

Elland Road will host more than just football

A refurbished stadium offers numerous opportunities and the possibility of hosting other events outside of football to increase the club’s revenue.

Borson believes the stadium revamp could offer Leeds the opportunity to make Elland Road the city’s main attraction.

“I don’t think it’s a surprise that this has happened given the new ownership and investment from Red Bull,” he told Football Insider.

“Firstly, they have to do something with the stadium. The stadium is aging and needs investment, so this is inevitable.

“Secondly, it’s a one-club town and having it as a centerpiece is clearly important and a huge opportunity for them.

“This applies even if they are not in the Premier League.

“If they can attract big crowds, even if they’re not in the Premier League, it will make a material difference to the club’s funding.

“It can also be an important events center for the city and Leeds is an important city.

“There isn’t the level of competition that a place like Manchester has for venues, so this will give them another source of potential income.”

Leeds are a great football club and deserve a stadium befitting their status, and an upgrade to Elland Road is long overdue and would do wonders not just for the club but potentially the city as well.
