Your opinion on the weekend’s rugby

Your opinion on the weekend’s rugby

We asked for your opinion following Glasgow’s win against Benetton and Edinburgh’s defeat away to the Bulls at the URC.

Here’s a sample of what you had to say:

EDINBURGH

David: Sometimes Edinburgh are simply afraid to win. They get into scoring position and simply forget how to convert. They are a bit like Scotland and sometimes Glasgow in the sense that they haven’t yet worked out how to go the last five metres. Unlike Glasgow, they haven’t figured out how to score long-range tries like Scotland and Glasgow.

Graham: Same old story with Edinburgh, with the few opportunities the defenders managed to massacre, Darcy Graham should have been under the posts but followed the wrong lines, Duhan van der Merwe should learn to step laterally and the pack just didn’t have that vital grunt to get over the line. Grant Gilchrist has had his day. The concern is that there were probably five Scotland starters there.

Ian: Competitive forwards, but defenders lacking any killer instinct or cutting edge, continues to be the difference between Edinburgh and the other teams.

GLASGOW

Keith: A good result greatly helped by Benneton’s indiscipline. However, some of this indiscipline was in part due to pressure and commitment from Glasgow.

Antonio: From his first game at Scotstoun I thought Kyle Steyn would become a very good player. I was wrong. He is excellent in all facets of his game and leads by example. Unfortunately, I feel he will miss out on Lions selection because he is not a big flashy name in the eyes of those outside of Scotland. However, he is a URC championship winner.

Peter: Great win but there are definitely areas to work on, the line-up needs tweaking but there were lots of positives. Just seven penalties and two of them in the first two minutes. The attack looked threatening and they were just inches away from having 60 points on the scoreboard.

Stuart: The Warriors, for the second week, looked like the best team on the field, with a better result. It was the first cold game this season and may have contributed to the handling errors. Misfires by both prostitutes in throws in alignments close to the opposing line. We left a lot of goals on the field. Benneton looked decent until the red card.

Good: I thought 90% of the performance was great and it’s hard to complain about one win in six attempts! But we could still be more clinical. After the red card the game was never in danger, which was a shame as Benneton was good at times, but last week showed what happens when you don’t take advantage of your opportunities. Better teams will punish you for this.

Gordy: We left a lot of points there. They will need to be clinical from now on, they missed their own shot four times from the five meter line, but five points in the bag against a potential banana skin from an opponent. A six out of 10 performance.
