Premier League GW6 predictions: Can Tottenham finally beat a Big Six rival again?

We’re into the sixth game week of the 2024-25 Premier League season, and one that is filled with fascinating clashes.

All eyes will be on Sunday’s meeting between Manchester United and Tottenham, two underperforming sides that need all three points up for grabs.

Before then, there’s a bumper Saturday with seven games. Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal are all involved.

The weekend opens with champions Manchester City’s trip to face Newcastle and closes with a south coast showdown between Bournemouth and Southampton.

We’ve looked at all 10 matches from game week three and offered our predicted scores.

Newcastle vs Man City

Newcastle are unbeaten in their last 10 Premier League home games, winning six and drawing four. However, Manchester City were the last side to beat them at St James’ Park (3-2 in January). Furthermore, the champions are unbeaten in their previous 28 league games (W23 D5), with John Stones keeping that run going courtesy of a 98th-minute equalizer against Arsenal last time out. Twenty-four of these games have been in 2024, the longest run without a Premier League defeat from the start of a calendar year since Chelsea in 2008 (26).

Arsenal vs Leicester

Arsenal have won 16 of their last 17 Premier League games against promoted sides, except for a 1-0 loss at Nottingham Forest in May 2023. At home, the Gunners are unbeaten in 39 such games (W34 D5) since a 1-0 loss to Newcastle in November 2010. This season, Leicester remains winless in their five top-flight games, drawing three and losing two. Only in their relegation campaign of 2022-23 have they gone six without a win from the start of a Premier League season.

Brentford vs West Ham

Brentford have won four of their last five home league games against West Ham (D1), winning all three against them in the Premier League. Plus, they’ve registered at least twice in all six of their Premier League meetings with West Ham, the joint-most one side has faced another while scoring multiple goals each time in the competition’s history (Arsenal also six vs. Reading). Even though Julen Lopetegui’s men lost three of their five Premier League games this season, they remain unbeaten away from home (W1 D1).

Prediction: Brentford to score exactly 2 goals (11/5 with SBK)

Chelsea vs Brighton

Chelsea have won eight of their last 10 Premier League games, with one draw and one loss. Since the beginning of May, no team has earned more Premier League points than the Blues, with 25 points. Brighton are one of four teams that are still undefeated in the Premier League this season. However, their last three games all ended in draws, with two wins. Brighton have never gone undefeated in their first six games at the start of a top-flight campaign.

Everton vs Crystal Palace

Everton are winless in their last six Premier League games (D1 L5), despite taking the lead in four matches (D1 L3). Indeed, the Toffees have dropped more points from winning positions than any other side in the Premier League this season (8). Crystal Palace also come into this game without a Premier League win this season, although their last three games have been drawn (L2). They’ve not drawn four consecutive league games since October 2021 under Patrick Vieira.

Prediction: Over 2.5 Crystal Palace goals (37/10 with SBK)

Nottingham Forest vs Fulham

Nottingham Forest are one of four sides that remain unbeaten in the Premier League this season (also Manchester City, Arsenal, and Brighton). Forest last avoided defeat in their opening six matches of a league campaign in 2014–15 in the Championship (first 11). It’s also worth noting that each of Nottingham Forest’s last four league wins have all come away from home. Forest are winless in five at the City Ground (D3 L2), last enduring a longest winless home run in the Premier League between September 1998 and April 1999 (16 games). Fulham have also won more league games against Forest than they have vs any other opponent in their league history (42). They’ve won eight of their last 11 against the Tricky Trees (L3).

Prediction: Nottingham Forest 1-1 Fulham (6/1 with SBK)

Wolves vs Liverpool

Wolves remain without a league win so far this season (D1, L4) – only in 2003–04 (first seven) and 2019–20 (first six) have they gone longer without a victory from the start of a Premier League campaign. Liverpool have won five of their last six Premier League games (L1), keeping a clean sheet in each victory. The Reds had conceded in each of their previous 10 games before this run (16 goals conceded in total). Liverpool have also shipped in the fewest goals of any Premier League side this season (1), while no team has shipped more than Wolves (14), whose 14 goals conceded are their most after five games of any league season since 1985-86 ( 14 in third tier), and most in the top-flight since 1970-71 (14).

Prediction: Wolves 0-3 Liverpool (10/1 with SBK)

Ipswich vs Aston Villa

Ipswich Town have not won any of their first five Premier League matches this season (D3 L2). The last time they had a longer winless start to a top-flight season was in 1982-83, when they went winless for the first six games. However, they have drawn their last three league games. Aston Villa, meanwhile, won their first two away Premier League matches this season. Only once in their league history have they opened a season with three away wins, doing so only in 2020-21. In 18 Premier League matches against newly promoted teams, Unai Emery has a win percentage of 78% (W14 D2 L2), winning nine out of 10 as Aston Villa boss, including victory in all four away games.

Prediction: Ipswich 1-2 Aston Villa (41/5 with SBK)

Man Utd vs Tottenham

After a run of four straight Premier League defeats against Manchester United between 2021 and 2022, Tottenham are now unbeaten in their last three against them in the league (W1, D2). United have lost seven of their last 19 Premier League home games (W9, D3), including a 3-0 loss to Liverpool in their last such match. They had been unbeaten in 20 at Old Trafford before this current run (W17, D3). However, since winning at Man City in February 2022, the Lillywhites have made 12 subsequent trips to a Big 6 rival, returning home with seven losses and five draws.

Prediction: Man Utd 3-1 Tottenham (16/1 with Bet365)

Bournemouth have lost five of their last eight Premier League matches (W1, D2) – they had won five of their previous eight games beforehand (D1, L2). Southampton, meanwhile, have picked up just one point in their opening five Premier League matches in 2024-25, their fewest at this stage of a league season since 1998-99 when they had no points after five games.
